Parents are their children’s first teachers. If pre-reading experiences begin in the home, children will be better prepared for their entry to school. Children who come from homes that value reading and education often achieve higher grades than their counterparts who lack those types of experiences. It is critical that this type of parental support continue throughout the child’s time in school. This type of support will have a positive effect throughout the child’s academic experience. The North Providence School District recognizes the importance of parental involvement in each child’s education. Parental involvement is embedded in the North Providence Strategic Plan and the North Providence Reading Policy.
