Dear Parents and Community Members,
I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Robert O’Brien and I am the new interim superintendent of North Providence Schools. I am a lifelong resident of North Providence, my children attended school in town, and now my grandchildren attend school here. My background includes working as a teacher, school principal, assistant superintendent, and a district superintendent. I worked in North Providence as a principal at the Dr. Ricci School when it was a K-8 school. Most recently I served as a superintendent in Smithfield for 15 years until my retirement.
I look forward to working with you and our community to ensure that your children receive the highest quality education possible in a safe healthy environment.
I know the faith in North Providence Schools has been shaken by recent events and there is work to do to restore trust and confidence. However, I strongly believe that we have an opportunity to come together as a community on behalf of what matters most: our students. As your interim superintendent, I will be working to ensure that our primary focus remains on the quality of day-to- day teaching and learning in our classrooms.
Our teachers and support staff are excited about the work they do to help your children learn and grow every day! Our schools are lucky to have this talented staff and we are also lucky to have a strong community and supportive parents. Together, we all care deeply about the success of our children – and our schools care deeply about our community and its success as well!
This is an exciting time in North Providence with the school construction and renovations to the schools. I will keep you updated on the progress throughout the year.
Thank you for entrusting us with your children. We promise that all members of the school community will give you our very best.
