I am writing today to provide our North Providence families with updated busing information and to inform you of changes to our system beginning Wednesday, October 25, 2017.
We certainly recognize that busing and the overall transportation system have presented many challenges for our families. Together, with Durham Bus Services, we again offer you a sincere apology for any inconvenience you have experienced. On a very positive note, I am pleased to report to our families that we have worked closely with the new North Providence Durham Bus Services Management Team to put many plans in place with regard to employee training, effective use of Durham’s internal routing systems, and student safety. We continue to evaluate our transportation system on a weekly basis to determine additional areas for improvement.
Since the start of the school year, we have received many calls from concerned parents. As a result of information provided to us by our families, we were made aware of many aspects of the transportation system that were simply not working. As such, a new Durham Bus Services Management Team was established the second week of school. Upon examination of the various issues we were experiencing, we collaboratively determined that it was necessary to re-design our transportation system.
During one of our initial meetings with the new Durham Bus Services Management Team and representatives from the North Providence Police Department, we learned that some of the new bus stops had not been shared for approval by the North Providence Police Department, which is a state requirement with which all bus companies must comply. Sergeant Michael Scarramuzzo immediately began to review each proposed bus stop, determine necessary changes to the proposed stops, and meet with the Durham team adjust bus routes, stops, and times.
Attached you will find revised bus information including routes, stops, and times. In some cases, your child’s bus stop/time will not change. In other cases, you may notice a slight change to the stop location or the time. Please bear in mind that these changes reflect approved bus stops to ensure the safety of every student.
While the times listed are accurate, we continue to ask students and parents to arrive at their bus stops 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time.
Changes to times and bus stop locations will take place on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2017.
